WS5D - Amateur Radio Enthusiast

About Me

Hello! My name is Jack Bumgarner and I'm WS5D, an amateur radio operator with an Extra Class license. I enjoy exploring communication through various modes, including CW, RTTY, and PSK31. I'm also a proud member of CWops, SKCC, and FISTS. My favorite mode by far is CW, with RTTY  a close second and psk31 right in there. I am  a vintage 1941 Amateur, so you know I'm getting a little grey!  It's all fun tho! I first obtained my ticket in Ft Walton Beach, Fl. as wb4neu, taking the 5wpm code test standing at the counter of a local electronics shop from and elder amateur.  Sure wish I could remember his name!  Later, I was wb6iib when living in Ca. Ke5ret in Nm, and ws5d when I upgraded! I enjoy cw contesting, but my skills will not allow me to do the more complicated ones, but I still have fun.

Achievements and Projects

I've been actively involved in the amateur radio community, contributing to various projects and continuously expanding my knowledge in the fascinating world of radio communication. I operate two repeaters, one is an allstar on 147.32 mhz, and the other is IRLP on 444.45 mhz.  I also have a remote base hosting echolink and serving the local club repeater on 443.45 mhz.  My current hf radio is an FT-891 serving my cw needs. my original radio is a FT-990, which is under repair for I don't know how long, just depends om my motivation!
